Buttons

For the past few weeks I have been making buttons. I started out making buttons for my school's diversity day but I was having a lot of fun making buttons that I decided to continue making more buttons after diversity day was over. It is a long process and I had to learn how to use a new program. The website I got all the images from is http://icons.mysitemyway.com/

There are so many icons it was kind of overwhelming but I was able to find all the ones I wanted with only a bit of trouble.

Then there is the machine used to make buttons. It took a bit of work to figure out how it works but with my art teacher's help I was able to figure out how it works. The rest was cutting out the images using a machine that cuts them the right shape and size to make the buttons. The rest was repetitive work and was easy once I got the hang of it. I just had to make sure I addd all the right pieces to the button.
 
 
 

Emily Carr University

Our art class went to see the art exhibit at Emily Carr university on Granville Island. It was a really cool exhibit with a lot of variety. We were asked by our art teacher to answer a series of questions. Here are the questions along with pictures from the exhibit.

Piece that seems unfinished

‘Thugs that can be seen only if you stop’ by Mira Song seemed unfinished Because in the first two sections the work flows and is connected between the two sections but in the third section the work does not flow and is not connected except for the same colors were used. 

 

What did you see that you wish you could make?

There was a piece that was multiple sheets with designs that when placed over each other and seen from a distance you could see a map of the world. The piece looked really hard to make and must have taken a long time to make.

 

What genre captivated you most?

I liked the a lot of the digital pieces like "a mall for bunnies" by Nicole Dunn and "I want #$@!?%..." By Hannah (Girim) Han and "Rapunzel: the happiness of solitude" by Soo Jin Kim. Because they caught my eye and made me want to spend a long time looking at them.

Describe a piece you never imagined possible 

The piece that I never imagined possible was the one where a guy was able to make signs move. I have never seen anything like that before. 

 

Describe a piece that seems accomplished 

‘A Mall for some Bunnies’ by Nicole Dunn seemed accomplished because it was well done and looks like a lot of work was put in to making the piece. It wasn’t just something thrown together in a few minutes.

What piece knocked your socks off?  

The piece that the guy did where he made signs move. I have never seen that before and I thought it was really cool. Having a ‘beware of cliff’ sign where a guy was falling down through the clouds was my favorite.
