The drawing at the begining of the class today was working with chalk and water. I really enjoyed drawing with chalk and mixing it around with water. I want to maybe do a piece using chalk on canvas.
I finished my pipeline piece and have it up in the hallway at school and am very happy with the final piece.

Done
I glued together the sections of bottle caps and then glued the finished pipeline to the piece of plastic with pictures on it. I could keep going on the piece but I like how it is now and I am happy to say it is finished.

Black All Over
November 30, 2012
I put together the pipeline made of plastic bottle caps and it looked really good. I wanted to use India Ink and drip it down the line to look like oil. I couldn't do it with the whole line of bottle caps at once so I took it apart again and dripped ink down it section by section. The only difficulty when using ink was my hands got really black and ink takes forever to come off. I will put together the bottle caps after the ink dries more. I feel like there isn't much more that needs to be done.

Plastic
November 27, 2012
I worked more on the backdrop for the project. I added more pictures to it and am almost done with that. I cut plastic water bottle caps so that when glued to each other you can see through all of them.
My main message is the oil pipeline is bad but the irony is I am using a lot of plastic in my project and plastic is made from oil. However all the plastic I am using has been used before and is being recycled.

Change of Plans
November 22, 2012
Today for drawing we took turns standing at the front of the room in a position and the rest of the class had to draw us in that position using scribble. I enjoyed it.
I continued on with my piece but I have a new idea. Instead of just a pipeline I want to have a backdrop of the environment and have the pipeline snake its way through the environment ending off in the ocean. I am going to use a mix of black and white and coloured images plus some 3D structures.

Inside
November 20, 2012
I pieced together the inside of the pipeline. I had a bit of difficulty placing the pictures so that they came out how I wanted them and on the correct side but was able to get it right in the end. Next class I will piece together the outside of the pipeline and then if there is time I will shape it into the correct shape

Pipeline Environment
November 16, 2012
Using a semi-clear plastic flimsy board I am going to put it in the shape of a cylinder. I will have nature pictures inside where it is harder to see them and pictures of our regular way of life and some quotes and things on the outside. I am still working on it and over the weekend I will gather more pictures. On Tuesday next week I will put my idea in motion.

Figure Drawings
November 15, 2012
Our drawing session at the beginning of class started off with drawing the feeling of doing something. first it was draw the feeling of running through a hail storm and then the feeling of going through a field of ripe berries and stopping to pick berries as you go. That was just markings on the page.
After that we used match sticks and broke them into pieces. We used the pieces to form stick figures and put tracing paper over top. We colored over the figures using graphite sticks. It was hard to get the stick figures to stay still while we coloured over them but having them move a bit gave them the look of motion.
That was just markings on the page. The next thing we had to draw was figures using cursive lines followed by figures drawn using scribble. These weren't so hard to get into and looked like people.
The last thing we were drawing was using charcoal and our hands. We had to get our fingers covered in charcoal and make a figure. We were encouraged to not just make lines on a page. I had a hard time getting out of my comfort zone and not making lines but in the end my hands got covered in charcoal and I had fun rubbing charcoal all over a piece of paper. It did look kind of like a face and I would happily do it again.

Art Piece Coming Together
November 13, 2012
The message behind my piece is we are too interested in electronics and aren't paying enough attention to nature. I am using nature pictures from Canada and intertwine it with a map of the Enbridge oil pipeline. We care too much for our money then we do about our natural world.
I have a bigger idea of what I want my piece to look like.
I like having a message in my art pieces. I like people to think about our world and see that our world is not perfect.

Royal BC Museum
November 6th, 2012
What happens when your dad has a conference in Victoria, BC? The whole family goes with him of course. Leaving Raincouver on Friday afternoon we drove to the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal.
The drive was long and boring so to pass the time my brother and I watched Legally Blonde and I loved it because I have a thing for romantic comedy movies and surprisingly my brother liked it too.
We arrived at the terminal and as siblings to I was pissed at my brother for some stupid thing and he was in his sulky mood. We headed over to the indoor market to get a quick dinner before our scheduled ferry.
Aboard the ferry I was listening to music and plotting away at my plan for my NaNo WriMo novel that I was starting on in November. The ferry was a smooth sailing except for some teenage girl came into the main area and turned off the TV because she wasn't interested in the football game that was on. After fiddling with it for what seemed like hours my dad was able to get it working again. We docked in Victoria and drove to our hotel, got our room and had a light bite to eat.
The next morning my dad was in a meeting so my mom, brother and I took advantage of the break in the rain. We went to Goldstream Provincial Park to watch the salmon run. It was incredible! The salmon were huge and were moving so fast. I couldn't believe how many were there. We walked the trail to the nature house and learned more about the area. After we drove back to our hotel. By then my dad was done his meeting and I was dying to show him the salmon run. So as soon as we got back my mom and brother got out of the car and my dad got in. When my dad and I went it was poring rain. We got to see a different side to the salmon run. When we got there, there were first nations people fishing for the salmon. Their children were watching because they were passing on their tradition to their children. At first I was pissed that people were hunting such and incredible species but once I heard the reason they do it and the good that comes out of it I wasn't as pissed. That was the second salmon run I saw and I will never forget what I saw.
The next day we packed up all our stuff and drove into Victoria. Our first stop was Monroe bookstore. I didn't buy any books but I took note of some books I want to read. What I did buy was a 2013 calendar with a different left-handed fact every day. Our next destination was the Royal BC Museum and man is it massive!
There were three main exhibits we saw. The first was the history of map making and there were some of the most ancient world maps. I loved seeing what people thought of the shape of the world during our history.
The next exhibit was the Victoria history section. I went in thinking I can't wait to get out of this section and see the natural history but this section was by far one of the best museum exhibits it comes close to The Newseum, Museum of Natural history and museum of American history in Washington DC.
The part that stood out to me was the street of Victoria in the 1800s. I saw old store fronts and what was in the stores and how much things costed. We got to walk through an old house. I also liked the section on the railway and the logging stuff because I love canadian history and the life during the late 1800s is my favourite part of Canadian history especially the Canadian Pacific Railway.
The last section we went to was a bit of a disappointment. The natural history section. It wasn't very big and didn't quite measure to my expectations. I liked the giant mammoth and the prehistoric stuff but I preferred the old Victoria section.
This last pictures isn't from any museum. It is two stores and the date on top is the year each place was established '58 and 1891

Art with meaning
October 30th, 2012
The meaning behind a piece of art can be as simple or as complex as the artist wants. When I do art I try to have a message that I want people to see. Last year I went against Large mammals in aquariums by using newspaper headings and pictures from news articles. This year my piece is going to be around a green world. Part of it is green happy planet the other part is going to be things we buy or that bad things we do.
I have finished cutting out most of what I want I just need to cut out pictures of computers and other electronic devices. I have enough words, phrases and pictures of nature.
I am choosing between An earth or the sun or a cell for how I am going to create my piece and will look at diagrams of the different ones and see which ones jump out at me.

Drawing and Mountail Life
October 25, 2012
We have started drawing at the beginning of Thursday classes. Today we drew lines and circles using coffee, India ink, pastels, and pencils. I liked working with the coffee and ink on the white paper the best because you can see everything very clear.
After drawing I went back to what I was working on last class. I cut out some sporty pictures from the Mountain Life magazine. I was able to find more words that I could cut out and I like the pictures better than in the previous magazine.
I need to find some pictures of computers and other electronics so that I can have the electronics at the center and everything else around them. I still don't know what this will look like in the end or how I'm going to do it.

100 years of National Geographic
October 23, 2012
I came into the art room with today with no idea what to do next. I just finished our classes lated project and was ready for something else. That came to me in the form of an old issue of National Geographic from 1988. The issue had old pictures from 1888 that caught my eye as well as pictures from the USA from 1988. There was another issue of National Geographic that I took pictures from but these were of various animals. I took all the pictures I cut out and divided them into animals and people.
I want to do some sort of collage type thing but I want to make it 3D and not just your everyday collage.
I experimented with transferring pictures onto tape and lets just say I am not very good at it. I want to get more pictures from magazines and make an earth with all of the pictures I took on top of a layer of blue, green and brown paint but I don't want it to be a circle because our world isn't perfect.
